Strategies and Activities:

  1. Establish online system for reporting incidents of harassment, violence, abuse, discrimination, etc. to Campus Climate Team and/or appropriate authorities. Reports may be made anonymously.
    Status The site is up and running and has be reconfigured to match the new Virginia Tech website.
     
  2. Establish telephone number (e.g. 231-SAFE) for more interactive support and response to incidents.
    Status Still under consideration.
     
  3. Review Residence Life policies, procedures, and staff training activities for their ongoing effectiveness in addressing specific climate issues (harassment, violence, abuse, etc.) involving any individual or group, including members of the LGBT community.
    Status Review is complete with some procedures and practices being enhanced and added.
     
  4. Identify and share "best practices" with deans, faculty, graduate teaching assistants, and unit managers on how to respond in a timely and appropriate manner to student or employee behaviors that do not conform to Virginia Tech Principles of Community or university policy.
    Status A Campus & Workplace Violence Prevention & Crisis Management Resource Manual has been developed by Human Resources.
     
  5. Explore partnerships and collaborative activities between the university and the larger community (Blacksburg, Montgomery County, etc.) that promote, create, and support a positive, safe, and secure "neighborhood" for all.
    Status Work underway.
     
  6. Voluntary access to counseling opportunities/support the campus resources available will be highlighted for individuals to include counseling (the Counseling Center on campus for students) as well as trained professionals who can assist faculty, staff, and students in navigating through the system include the Women's Center, Student Life, and Human Resources.
    Status Campus resources available; will be highlighed on the website.
